In 2009 Giffen Group celebrate 100 years of trading and to mark this momentous year the Group has planned a number of events and charity based initiatives.
The adopted charity for the Giffen Group Centenary year is to be the Cancer Treatment & Research Trust Appeal (CTRT), based at Mount Vernon Hospital. Mount Vernon not only treats patients but is also at the forefront of cancer research in the UK.
One of the focal points for the Giffen Group Centenary year is the art project, in collaboration with Oaklands College.
Oaklands College art students, responding to a design brief, produced original artwork linked to themes relating to the Giffen Centenary and sectors the Group operates within.
The response was outstanding and the 80 entries were carefully whittled down to 34 all of which were displayed at an exhibition at St Albans Town Hall.
The private viewing attracted over 90 guests. A judging panel chose 6 items to go forward as ‘winners’ for auction at the celebratory dinner. Bids were invited for all of the artwork on display and in excess of £8,000 was bid for the works.
